Epic Supporter Pack is Actually 15% Off Now

This is a quick email to apologize for posting the wrong sale price for the Epic Supporter pack. A few days ago I sent out this email:

https://learncodethehardway.com/emails/28-the-great-rewrite-and-other-changes/

Where I announced "The Great Rewrite" and that my plan was to lower the price on the Epic Supporter Pack by 15%. My goal is on March 1st to start rewriting the whole website in Go, and to only sell the Epic Support Pack until I finish. Think of it as a little "challenge run" for the project.

What Happened?

The problem is, my current code is so bad that I have to run a rebuild command to make it actually update the price from a yaml file that's fed into a database and since that yaml file isn't like my other json files I constantly...you know what. Let's just say I didn't think this through and thus, the rewrite is very necessary.

Partial Refunds Incoming

If you bought the Epic Supporter Pack at full price after Feb 23 then you'll get a partial refund for the sale difference. There's not many of you, and if you bought it with Paypal you should have already received it. If you used Stripe I have to confirm it'll work then you'll receive it shortly after.

What's the ESP Price Now?

The price for Epic Supporter Pack is now 15% off for $169.15 and if you had purchased courses in the past then they'll count toward the price. Some of you may get it for free, which is fine by me since you bought enough to deserve it.

Start Your Engines!

One more thing: I'm going to sponsor a Game Engine Jam in a few days, so if you're hacking on a game engine and want to get in on the jam then watch for that email. I want to run a jam just for people making engines because I see a lot of people working on them, but they don't get any exposure compared to the big ones. I also feel that people are told to, "Make a Game, not a Game Engine" which might be stifling creativity unfairly.

I also think a bunch of you are just working on a Graphics Engine and need a kick in the pants to actually turn it into a Game Engine.

I'm currently working on an initial website for the announcement and for people to register. The current plan for the jam is this:

  1. You'll have the month of March to get your game engine ready. Don't make a game yet, just get your engines...ready.
  2. On April 1st you'll have X number of days (2 or 7, not sure) to make a game with your engine, but there's a catch!
  3. Before you start you have to submit a revision for your git repo and use only that revision to make your game. If you run into bugs then you have to work around them and finish your game anyway.

I'm also going to try to get a page on the Jam's website that shows everyone's Twitch (others?) streams and information. I have this idea that people can land on the page and browse through the channels to look for people working on their engines. That all depends on how hard it is to get that information from the Twitch API.

Thanks For Your Time

Once again everyone, thanks for your time, and my apologies for the wrong price on it.

Zed
